Know how to use your ISO insurance plan

October 2011 e-Newsletter - ISO Insurance – International student health insurance!

Becoming an ISO member is an enriching experience. Before you even purchase the insurance you can have a meaningful conversation with our multi-lingual staff. After you have selected an insurance plan and completed your application online, you will receive an confirmation email along with a policy brochure. By accessing your online account at isoa.org, you can instantly print a copy of your insurance ID card before receiving the hard copy by mail.

Knowing how to use your medical card is important when visiting a doctor, hospital, or pharmacy. The first step is to find a doctor or hospital within our PPO networks. Our two networks are First Health and Beech Street. These links will help you find a participating provider in your area. You will save money by going to a doctor or hospital in either of these two networks. When you call a provider from the search results, make sure to confirm with them that they are with First Health or Beech Street before scheduling an appointment.

When you arrive at the doctor’s office or hospital present your medical card (or a copy of it) to them. If they have any questions about coverage they can call our benefits and claims department, Klais & Company. The number is (800) 331-1096 and is listed on the back of the card.

An in-network doctor or hospital will charge you according to your plan benefits and then mail the rest of the bill to Klais for processing. As long as you provide your medical card to them, they will know where to bill the claim to. An out-of-network doctor or hospital may ask you to pay for the services when you arrive, in which case you can later file a claim yourself.

At the end of your appointment, your doctor might write a prescription for medication. You should go to a pharmacy to have the prescription filled. While you are at the pharmacy make sure to show your medical card and you should receive a discount at any pharmacy that is within the Medco network. After you purchase the medication you can send a claim to Klais along with the receipts from the pharmacy for the reimbursement. Always make sure to keep copies of any claims, bills and receipts that you send you Klais.

Other than purchasing the insurance to help with the expenses for doctor and hospital visits, you may also need the insurance in order to register for classes at school. You can show proof of your insurance to your school by presenting your medical insurance card. Alternatively, if you didn’t receive your card yet, you can provide them with a copy of the card that is available from your account. You can also ask ISO to issue a Letter of Confirmation which provides detailed information about your coverage. We can send it to you however you’d like. If your school has a waiver or compliance form that needs to be filled out and signed by us, simply email it to us and we can do just that before faxing it directly to your school.
